Spall # 15

                         Spall # 15 23/June/'08

Another odd shaped spall with a large fracture near one end and a large bulb of percussion.

Matanzas # 5: was made with a whitetail antler billet, sandstone abrader, copper pressure flaker, and copper notcher. It took 24 minutes to produce.

Matanas # 5 (length-3.8 cm./width-2.5 cm./weight-10 g.), isolated.

Although the picture is missing, Matanzas #5's debitage produced these tools: 6 spoke shaves, 2 thumb scrapers, and 1 graver. The tools were produced in 6 minutes and their total weight was 35 g.

The weight of the debitage was 55 grams.



Spall # 16

 

Spall # 16 was taken from the debitage of Etley # 2. It was worked into Matanzas # 6 in 37 minutes. No other tools were made from Matanzas # 6's debitage

Matanzas # 6: (length-7.3 cm./width-2.5 cm./weight-19 g.), isolated.



Decortification Debitage

It was decided to return to the decortification debitage to see if any additional tools could be made from that material.

These tools were produced: 3 thumb scrapers, 2 burins, 1 spoke shave, 1 graver, and 1 unaltered flake knife.

The weight of the decortification debitage was 202 grams.



The total number of points produced during this project was 16.

They include: 1 Red Ochre Cache Blade, 2 Etleys, 6 Matanzas, and 7 Godars.

The total number of tools, other than points was 217

They include: 1 overshot scraper, 2 burins, 10 reamers, 10 gravers, 15 unaltered flake knives, 82 spoke shaves, and 87 thumb scrapers.

The weight of the drilling grit produced was 164 grams.
